 How many hours’ Japanese people study every day at school?

There are generally 6 or 7 periods per day, going from 8:30 AM to 3:30 or 4:30 PM, with about 45 minutes for lunch. Some, but not all, high schools have cafeterias or lunchrooms. Students generally have to get to school before 8:15 or so for homeroom class.
Students who have club activities can come as early as 7 AM and stay as late as 6:30 or 7 PM. These times may vary from school to school.
Junior high schools generally have 5 or 6 periods per day, going from 8:30 AM to about 2:30 or 3:30 PM; students generally have to get to school before 8:15 or so for homeroom. Most, if not all, junior high schools have lunchrooms, and the students (particularly in public schools) will generally eat the school lunches. Junior high school students generally can’t stay at the school later than about 6PM, even with their clubs.
